What is Motor Neurone Disease?

Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive neurological condition that causes the motor neurons in the brain, spinal cord and other areas of the body to malfunction and die.

This ultimately leads to muscle weakness, wasting and paralysis. It can affect any individual regardless of age, gender or ethnicity. In addition, MND is also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), progressive bulbar palsy and Lou Gehrig’s disease.

How will Kinsa Care approach Motor Neurone Disease?

At Kinsa Care we provide complex care services tailored to meet the individual needs of those affected by MND. Our focus is on providing a holistic approach to care through an interdisciplinary team made up of nurses, therapists and physicians who collaborate to ensure that each patient receives appropriate care throughout their journey with MND. Our team work together with other healthcare professionals including occupational therapists and speech therapists to assist our clients with managing day-to-day activities such as mobility, self-care skills training, daily living tasks such as dressing/grooming/feeding themselves as well as home safety assessment for fall prevention.

We also provide emotional support through counselling sessions which allow space for clients and their families to express their thoughts/feelings about their diagnosis in a safe environment. All our services are evidence-based using best practices to ensure that each client receives the highest quality care possible.
