What is Tracheostomy?
Tracheostomy is a procedure that creates an opening in the neck, to allow direct access to the trachea (windpipe) for medical treatment and interventions including suctioning, ventilation, and oxygen support.
It may be required when a person has difficulty breathing through their nose and mouth due to respiratory conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or sleep apnea.
