What is Post-Polio Syndrome (PPS)?
Post-polio syndrome (PPS) is a rare condition that affects people who have had polio and is characterised by the re-emergence of muscle weakness, pain, fatigue, and breathing problems.
It typically appears 15 to 40 years after the initial onset of polio. PPS commonly affects older adults and can cause significant disabilities.
Kinsa Care Approach to Post-Polio Syndrome (PPS)
At Kinsa Care we understand that proper management of Post-polio syndrome requires an interdisciplinary approach that takes into account the physical and emotional needs of patients. We specialise in providing personalised care plans tailored specifically for each patient’s individual needs so that they can live as independently and productively as possible. Our staff consists of registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and speech-language pathologists who are all highly trained in caring for those suffering from post-polio syndrome.
We work together with our patients to provide comprehensive care plans consisting of physical rehabilitation strategies such as exercise regimens or adaptive equipment use; psychological support through counselling sessions; nutrition advice for healthy eating habits; education about the disease process; and coordination with other medical professionals when necessary.
