What is Learning Disability?
Learning disability is a neurological disorder that affects the ability of individuals
To process information and impacts how they perceive, think, reason, remember, problem-solve, communicate and interact with the world around them. It can cause difficulties in learning new skills and completing tasks that require more than one step. Individuals with learning disabilities may experience difficulty in reading, writing, memory, mathematics, organisation and executive functioning.
Kinsa Care Approach to Learning Disability:
At Kinsa Care we understand that each individual’s needs are unique. We strive to provide a comprehensive approach for those living with a learning disability that focuses on developing strengths while targeting areas for improvement.
Our approach includes providing education about the individual’s diagnosis so that appropriate strategies can be implemented to the independence and increase self-confidence. We use evidence-based intervention methods such as cognitive behavioural therapy to address underlying issues that affect an individual’s behaviour and emotional regulation as well as educational support services when needed. Additionally, we offer assistance in navigating through difficult times by guiding how best to cope with challenging situations in positive ways while teaching effective communication skills when interacting with others.
Finally, our team works collaboratively within an interdisciplinary model alongside families & caregivers to develop a plan tailored specifically to each person’s individual needs.
